Living expenses and investment planner

Know your spending. Plan your future.

This portal turns your everyday numbers into a financial model that fits you. See exactly where your money goes each month, test what a SIP could grow to, and plan the house, car or bike you want without guessing.

Returns are shown the honest way, after inflation, so you can see what your savings will really buy in the years ahead. Start by entering your income and monthly costs below.

Why we built this. Almost everyone tells you to write your plans down and sit with them. We built this portal so your plans are kept digitally, and so you can work towards your goals. Your figures are saved in this browser, on this device.

For illustration only, not financial advice. See the disclaimer at the end of the page.

Try a ready-made example

Each example fills in a made-up income, costs and purchase plan so you can see how the portal works. Change any figure to make it your own.

Type your own purchaseWrite it in one line with the price, loan tenure and interest rate. The down payment is 20% (10% for a home) unless you write your own, such as “down payment 25%”.

How to use this portal

Add your expenses

  • Pick your currency and type your monthly take-home income.
  • Fill in each cost in the table.
  • Compare each cost with its recommended amount. A green plus means you are under it, and a red minus means you are over.
  • The pie and the total show where your money goes each month.

Understand your wealth

  • Each month, 90% of what is left after expenses goes into a SIP, and your salary is assumed to rise 5% a year.
  • Choose an expected return (6% FD, 8% index fund, 10% mutual funds, 12% blue-chip stock or gold) and the number of years.
  • The big number is what your SIP grows to, and the chart shows your contributions and the growth year by year.
  • The inflation card then takes off 10% a year, so you see what that wealth is really worth in today’s money.

Plan your purchases

  • In Dreams and purchases, pick a bucket such as Home or Vehicle, type the price and add it. Add as many dreams as you like.
  • Choose when to buy and how long the EMI runs. A 20% down payment (10% for a home) comes out of your SIP, and the rest is paid as EMI.
  • Watch your wealth change. The calculator compares it with a future without purchases, so you see what each dream really costs you.
  • The card on expenses after EMI shows whether you can afford it, and how much extra cash flow or spending cut you would need. Use it to choose a better date, price or EMI term, and use your profile to see each item at any year.

Income, costs and spending

Pick your currency, type your monthly income and fill in your monthly costs. Your totals update straight away, and the workings stay tucked away until you open them.

What the different returns usually mean

6%Fixed deposit (FD)Low risk. The bank fixes the rate, so the result is predictable, but it grows slowly and the interest is usually taxed.
8%Index fundFollows a market index such as the Nifty 50 or S&P 500. Moderate risk, low fees, and it suits long-term saving.
10%Mutual fundsManaged equity funds that try to beat the market. Higher risk, and results depend on the fund manager and fees.
12%Blue-chip stock or goldLarge, established companies or gold. Higher potential, but prices can swing a lot, especially over short periods.

These are simplified, typical long-run figures to help you choose a rate, not promises. Real returns vary and can be negative, and the rate matching your choice is highlighted.

Pick your income and enter your monthly costs. 90% of what is left after expenses is invested to show how much wealth it could generate.

Your salary is assumed to rise 5% a year while costs stay the same, and 90% of what is left each month goes into the SIP. Money goes in at the start of each month and returns compound monthly. A steady return is an assumption, not a guarantee.

    Dreams and purchases

Every purchase needs a 20% down payment (10% for a house), saved up within the time you pick, in weeks, months or years. The rest is paid as a monthly EMI from your income. The terms set below are used for each new item, and you can change them for any item in the list.

Income and costs are assumed constant. Each item needs a 20% down payment (10% for a house), and the rest is financed with equal monthly payments starting the month after purchase. Interest rates are placeholders, so use your lender’s rate. Prices are not adjusted for inflation.

      Disclaimer

This portal is an educational tool. Its results are illustrations based on the numbers you enter and on simple assumptions. They are not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and not an offer or recommendation to buy or sell anything. Speak to a licensed financial adviser before you make decisions about your money.

      • Returns are assumed to be steady. Real investments can earn less than expected or lose money, and past results do not guarantee future ones. The return examples (FD, index fund, mutual funds, blue-chip stock, gold) are simplified.
      • Salary is assumed to rise 5% a year, inflation is fixed at 10% a year, and your costs and prices stay the same. Real life will differ.
      • Loan interest rates, the 20% and 10% down payments, the recommended percentages for each cost, the example price options and the currency rates are placeholders. Use your own lender’s terms and current rates.
      • Taxes, fees, insurance and the effect of loan prepayment are not included.
